Sophia Walker wins gold and two more medals at Bank Thalwil Cup

Sophia Walker, a 12-year-old from Limmat Sharks Zürich, won gold in the 100m individual medley and added silver and bronze at the Bank Thalwil Cup in Gattikon on November 9, 2025.

The short-course meet featured swimmers from 12 clubs across the region. Walker competed in five events and earned her first gold of the season in the 100m IM with a personal-best time of 1:17.30. She also took silver in the 50m breaststroke (37.04) and bronze in the 50m freestyle (30.83), the latter also a personal best. Walker finished sixth in the 50m butterfly (35.70) and 11th in the 50m backstroke (39.09), another personal best.

Several other swimmers reached the podium with notable results. A competitor from SC Uster posted a personal best in the 200m freestyle to claim gold, while a swimmer from SV Waedenswil earned her first medal of the season with bronze in the 100m backstroke. In the youngest age group, a 9-year-old from Schwimmclub Meilen took silver in the 50m breaststroke, her first podium finish in two years.

Limmat Sharks Zürich led the club standings with 14 total podiums, including 6 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals. The club's swimmers won more gold than any other team at the meet, and their 6 gold medals matched the combined total of the next two clubs. The team also set two meet records in the relay events.

The Bank Thalwil Cup drew swimmers from 12 clubs across the region, with races held in a 25-meter pool. For Walker, the meet marked her strongest result of the season, with three personal bests and a gold-medal swim to carry into her next competition.
