Sophia Walker wins 100m breaststroke at Schweizer Nachwuchs-Cup Final

Sophia Walker, 13, of Limmat Sharks Zürich won the 100m breaststroke in a personal-best 1:16.01 at the Schweizer Nachwuchs-Cup Final in Oberkirch on April 25, 2026, her second personal best of the day.

Walker also placed fourth in the 100m freestyle, touching the wall in 1:04.92. Both swims were personal bests, and her breaststroke time earned 552 FINA points, the highest score of any swimmer in her age group at the meet. Her freestyle time was good for 454 FINA points.

Several other swimmers reached the podium for the first time this season. A 10-year-old from Schwimmclub Aare, Lena Fischer, won her first gold medal in the 50m backstroke. Jonas Keller of Schwimmclub Biel took silver in the 200m individual medley, his first podium finish in two years. In the 400m freestyle, Mia Schneider of Schwimmclub Thunerreached the podium for the first time in her career, taking bronze with a personal-best time.

Limmat Sharks Zürich finished the meet with 14 total podiums, including 6 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals. The club ranked second among all participating clubs in total medals, trailing only Schwimmclub Aare, which collected 17 podiums. Notably, Limmat Sharks Zürich was the only club with two swimmers who set personal bests in every race they entered.

The Schweizer Nachwuchs-Cup Final brought together 120 swimmers from 15 clubs across Switzerland. Walker's two personal bests capped a strong season for the Limmat Sharks Zürich age-group program, which will now turn its attention to the summer long-course season.
