Walker wins two golds at regional summer championships in Winterthur

Sophia Walker of Limmat Sharks Zürich won two gold medals at the RZO: Regionale Sommermeisterschaften 2026 on June 20 in Winterthur, topping her age group in the 50m and 100m breaststroke with personal-best times.

Walker, competing in the 50m breaststroke, touched the wall in 35.95 seconds, ranking first in her age group with 533 FINA points. She followed that with a win in the 100m breaststroke in 1:17.79, earning 560 FINA points and another first-place finish. Both races counted toward her personal-best collection, along with the 50m butterfly (33.07), 50m freestyle (29.76) and 100m butterfly (1:16.74).

Beyond her two golds, Walker took silver in the 200m breaststroke (2:50.92), 200m IM (2:42.16) and 400m IM (5:50.12). She placed fourth in the 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle (1:05.86), seventh in the 50m freestyle (1:58.83) and eighth in the 50m IM (2:11.13).

Other swimmers also reached the podium at the meet. In the youngest age groups, Emma Keller and Lucas Meier each climbed to the top step for the first time this season, while Jonas Fischer delivered a personal best in his silver-medal swim in the 200m freestyle. Anna Schneider, competing in her final race of the day, earned bronze in the 100m backstroke after a strong finish.

Limmat Sharks Zürich finished the meet with 12 total podiums, including 4 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals. That placed the club second overall among the 8 participating teams, behind only SC Uster, which collected 15 podiums. Limmat Sharks also posted the most personal bests of any club, with 14 swimmers improving their times.

The regional summer championships brought together 8 clubs and more than 120 swimmers at the outdoor pool in Winterthur. For Walker, the meet marked a strong end to the early summer season, with five personal bests across her 11 races.
