Walker wins gold at 46. Meilemer Meeting

Sophia Walker, 12, of Limmat Sharks Zürich, won gold in the 50m breaststroke at the 46. Meilemer Meeting in Meilen on September 27, 2025, topping a field of 5 events in short-course meters.

Walker delivered a strong all-around performance at the Meilen pool, reaching the podium in three of her five races. Her best result came in the 50m breaststroke, where she touched the wall in 37.47 seconds for first place. She also took silver in the 100m freestyle with a time of 1:08.71 and bronze in the 100m individual medley in 1:18.44. In her other two events, she placed fourth in both the 50m butterfly (35.19) and the 100m backstroke (1:21.43).

The meet featured swimmers across multiple age groups, and several athletes earned their first podium finishes of the season. A number of competitors posted personal-best times while climbing the medal stand, adding to the day's positive results. Organizers noted strong participation from regional clubs, with tight races in several events.

Limmat Sharks Zürich finished as one of the top clubs of the day. The team collected 14 total podiums, including 5 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 5 bronze medals. That put the Zürich club second in the overall club standings, just behind the host club from Meilen, which led with 18 podiums.

The Limmat Sharks' depth was on display across all age groups, with multiple swimmers contributing to the club's medal tally. Walker's gold and two additional podium finishes were a key part of the team's overall success in Meilen.

The 46. Meilemer Meeting wrapped up a busy September weekend for regional swimmers, with many athletes now turning their attention to the upcoming winter season.
