Sophia Walker wins gold and silver at Winterthur Speednight

Sophia Walker, 12, of Limmat Sharks Zürich, won gold in the 50m breaststroke and silver in the 50m freestyle at the 4. Decathlon - Speednight 2026, held January 24, 2026, in Winterthur, Switzerland.

Walker touched the wall in 37.27 seconds for the breaststroke gold, earning 478 FINA points, and followed with a 30.68-second swim in the freestyle for silver and 455 FINA points. She also placed 6th in the 50m butterfly (34.84) and 5th in the 50m backstroke (38.11) in the long-course meet.

Other swimmers reached podiums across age groups. Emma Keller took gold in her event with a personal-best time, while Lucas Meier claimed his first podium finish of the season with a bronze. Anna Fischer and Jonas Weber also stepped onto the podium, with Fischer posting a season-best swim in her final race.

Limmat Sharks Zürich collected 14 total podiums at the meet, including 5 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals. That total placed the club second among all teams, trailing only the host club from Winterthur, which finished with 18 podiums. Limmat Sharks swimmers reached the podium in every age group entered.

The Speednight meet gave younger swimmers a chance to race four 50m events in one session, a format that rewards sprint speed and quick recovery. Walker's two medals highlighted a strong evening for Limmat Sharks, whose swimmers combined for more total podiums than any club except the hosts.
